Ravana Balaya, Sinhala Ravaya monks remanded by court

The General Secretary of the Ravana Balaya, the Venerable Ittekande Saddhatissa Thero, the?President of the Sinhala Ravaya the Venerable Akmeemana Dayarathana Thero and two other monks were remanded till tomorrow after they surrendered to the Homagama police today.

The four monks?had surrendered over a recent incident at the Homagama Magistrate’s Court.

The monks took part in a protest outside the court when the?General Secretary of the Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) the?venerable Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thero was presented to court last month.

Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thero was remanded for contempt of court and threatening the wife of missing journalist Prageeth Eknaligoda. (Colombo Gazette)

India detains 95 Sri Lankan Tamil refugees

In an overnight operation that ended early on Saturday, the Mangalore police prevented a group of 97 persons ? 95 of them believed to be Sri Lankan Tamil refugees ? from embarking on an unsafe and illegal sea voyage in a bid to migrate to Australia. The police have arrested 13 persons of the group who allegedly took money from the rest, promising them lucrative jobs in Australia. The Mangalore police said 84 persons, including 22 women and six children, were victims of a human trafficking bid.
