Crackdown on mosquito breeding grounds in seven districts

Mosquito_Tasmania_cropA three day program will be launched from tomorrow in seven districts to crackdown on mosquito breeding grounds.

The Ministry of Health said that the three day program is being launched as there is a fear that dengue will spread rapidly in Sri Lanka this year if it is not contained.

According to the Health Ministry, in January this year 5000 people had sought treatment for dengue and 8 deaths were reported.

The Ministry said that of the locations identified as dengue breeding grounds, 54 percent were schools, 36 percent are buildings under construction and 40 percent places of worship. (Colombo Gazette)
