Public urged to make complaints on political interference

Ravi KThe public have been urged to make complaints if there is political interference at independent institutions, the Ministry of Finance said today.

The Ministry quoted Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake as saying everyone must get together to create a new Sri Lanka following the political and social change in the country.

The Minister said that the Government is keen to ensure the law is fully implemented.

He said that the police is now able to operate independently unlike before where there was political interference.

The Minister said the police must now show the public that there is a change instead of misusing their powers.

Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake made these comments at a function held in Borella today. (Colombo Gazette)

  1. What’s the point in making complaints when even the Maha Sanga made complaints about the Diyawadana Nilame paying huge bribes to Buddhist Monks and government agents to vote for him and neither the Government, nor the Ministry of Justice and Buddhasasana, nor the AG nor the Police did anything about it?

There was video evidence, bank remittances to these people, affidavits from witnesses and complaints, but nothing was done and the rogue Diyawadana Nilame is still there, free to steal from the Sri Dalada Maligawa.

It’s nice to make these politically correct statements, but action is what is needed in this country, not political statements. I hear statements everyday, but see no action being taken. It’s the pinnacle of hypocrisy.

  2. Mr Minister here is a few for your consideration.
President’s brother being appointed to lead the Telecommunications.
Your brother in law being appointed to an organization under your purview.
Minister Ranatunga’s brother leading the Ports.
Amari Wijegunawardena being nominated for one of the top diplomatic posts.

For starters it will be nice to know the criteria used to justify these appointments under Yahapalanaya.
