Queen Elizabeth greets Maithripala for Independence Day

Queen1-1000Queen Elizabeth II has sent a greeting to President Maithripala Sirisena on the occasion of Sri Lanka’s Independence Day.

“It gives me great pleasure to send Your Excellency Maithripala Sirisena my congratulations on the celebration of your National Day, together with my best wishes for the good fortune and happiness of the people of Sri Lanka in the coming year,” she said in her message.

  1. Now this is mega news indeed I don’t think Queen has ever done some thing like this before. This shows her undying admiration for the President. Let me make a bold observation she may be tiny bid jealous about the Presidents status as the the world Leader extraordinaire in the 21st century.
    Oh no my mistake I have been corrected apparently Queen’s office sent these greetings to every country leader on independence day as Dunsal hand over rice packets.

  2. 133 years of continued British rule ended peacefully to the credit of the bothj the British and the Ceylonese. Reminiscing the chequered past nostalgic events and incidents cross my mind as a septuagenarian. The British ruled us better than the Portuguese and the Dutch definitely, whoch fact is proved when still remote rustic villagers pray that we have again a “Suddange AAnduwak mey pissu rajawalata wadaa”. There was no nepotism, justice and rule of law prevailed equally.The govt did not rob the people as is happening after Independence, they legitimately collected reevenue. Long live the British.
