Muthuhettigama tells MR not to divide the SLFP

Nishantha-MuthuhettigamaSri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) Parliamentarian and Deputy Minister Nishantha Muthuhettigama today urged former President Mahinda Rajapaksa not to divide the SLFP.

He said that the SLFP is facing several challenges in the current political environment.

Muthuhettigama said that Rajapaksa got a high number of votes in the Kurunegala district as a result of the backing he had in the SLFP.

He said that Rajapaksa must now ensure the SLFP remains united and not split and only then can the SLFP win the next Local Government election.

Muthuhettigama, who during the former regime was a strong supporter of Rajapaksa, said that the former President must not be misled by those who have personal agendas.

He warned, strong SLFP members will not allow the party to split and that they will begin a program to ensure the party remains united.

Muthuhettigama also invited SLFP members in the joint opposition to resolve their differences in the party through negotiations and ensure both Rajapaksa and President Maithripala Sirisena work together in the party. (Colombo Gazette)

  1. Muthuhettigama is speaking like he is born today. It was Sirisena split the SLFP when he was greedy for power to contest. Even today, it is not late to kick Sirisena out of SLFP if you want to protect SLFP. Sirisena is in power from more than 80% votes from UNP and TNA so he is did not have a support from SLFP although he tries to manage it. Because Sirisena is the one went against SLFP, Muthuhettigama should warn to Sirisena and not to Rajapaksa.

  2. The West and India have divided Tamils beyond repairable stage. Now they are targeting Sinhalese. Don’t blame Mahinda Rajapaksa or Maithripala Sirisena; they are not dividing the SLFP. The West and India have done it; you are too naive to understand the foreign power’s game.

  3. If Rajapaksha regime was in power it would have been a disaster for Sri Lanka. Skyrocketing prices of essential goods and taking loans that could not be paid what Sri Lanka would have got. It is a blessing that Maithripala Sirisena contested to be the president. Rajapaksha knew where the country was heading and hence he brought forward the presidential elections two. The country should be put forward first before parties like SLFP and UNP. Thank for coming forward to avert a disaster in Sri Lanka.
