Government says new AG will be appointed after consultations

The Government today said that a new Attorney General (AG) will be appointed after consultations with all parties including the Bar Association of Sri Lanka.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said that President Maithripala Sirisena will make recommendations on the appointment of the new AG and then discussions will be held with the Bar Association and others on the nominees for the post.

Opposition member Dinesh Gunawardena said that there have been reports the new AG will be appointed through a process which goes against the 19th Amendment to the constitution.

Gunawardena urged Speaker Karu Jayasuriya to ensure the proper process in followed when the new AG is appointed. (Colombo Gazette)
