President Sirisena insists he has no personal agenda

MaithripalaPresident Maithripala Sirisena insists he has no personal agenda and his only agenda is to meet the needs of the country.

“When solving the problems of the people, the responsibility of the politicians is to be committed to national goals without concentrating on the votes”, President Sirisena said.

He requested the Members of Parliament to be dedicated to fulfill their responsibilities for the public properly on time without thinking of the Provincial Council Election or the Parliamentary Election to be held in five years.

The President was speaking at the opening ceremony of the newly built Technical Laboratory of Adarsha Maha Vidyalaya in Saliyaveva, Putlam today.

The President cautioned politicians not to postpone the decisions which need to be taken for the betterment of the people, due to the feeling that they will lose their votes. “Nobody should be afraid of taking correct decisions for development”, he said.

Commenting on the shortage of the teachers island-wide, the President said steps should be taken to place additional teachers in the schools where there are vacancies.

President Sirisena later vested the newly built Technical Laboratory of Thabbowa central college to the students.

The president was warmly welcomed by the students and he also made an inspection tour of the new laboratory. At the School, the President also inquired into the education of the students and their educational requirements.

The President later presented awards to three students who showed excellent results in the GCE A/L Examination. (Colombo Gazette)

  1. Not all students have done A/L exam in a fair way. Tamil students get support in the exam hall to answer the questions. Then high marks are given during paper marking time as Tamil teachers marking Tamil medium answers. There were even court cases with evidence on this issue but still happening. As the President you need to stop this as all students should get fair opportunity in A/L exams. At least re-mark the papers with different teachers not just by Tamil teachers.
