No meeting between Nasheed and Sri Lankan politicians

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs today asserted that there was no meeting between former Maldives President Mohamed Nasheed and Sri Lankan politicians when he was in Sri Lanka this week.

Nasheed was in Sri Lanka while on his way to Britain for medical attention and there were reports he may have had talks with Sri Lanka Government members while in Colombo.

“The former President of the Maldives Mr. Mohamed Nasheed was only on transit in Sri Lanka on his way for medical treatment, and during this time, Mr Nasheed did not meet any Sri Lankan political leaders,”?Mahishini Colonne,?Spokesperson for the?Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka said.

Nasheed was allowed to travel to UK by the Maldives Government but on his return he must continue to serve a jail term.

While in Colombo he had meetings with foreign diplomats based in Sri Lanka. (Colombo Gazette)

Sri Lanka to release 10 Tamil Nadu fishermen’s boats

The Sri Lankan Navy will soon release ten Indian fishermen’s boats, which were taken into custody in 2015 and 2016, India Today reported.
