  1. As I am very closely known to the characters whose names are mention in this content, I am not writing this in defamation or MALICE, but as a Political Communication Researcher, as I wish to place before the Muslim voters, especially the Muslim voters of the Eastern and Northern Province a critical analysis of the true situation of our (Muslim) vote bank and the political situation of the community. It is not Dr. A.R.A. Hafeez, Minister Rauf Hakeem’s brother and his former Private Secretary who should have resigned, but Minister Rauf Hakeem himself should have resigned honourably. Being seen as the biggest Muslim deceptive lying politician, was again proved at the 2015 general elections by his political maneuvering of promising National List seats to different Muslim majority areas in the Eastern province. Minister Rauf Hakeem promised National List positions to representatives of Kalmunai, Pottuvil, Nintavur and even Mutur. This he did to get the Muslims in these rural enclaves to cast their votes to the SLMC/UNP candidates. But they all lost, except one seat the SLMC won on the Tree symbol and that too because the National Front for Good Governance – NFGG which was popular in Kattankudy brought the SLMC 12000 votes of the 28000 votes that were polled to win that seat by the SLMC candidate. In Digamadulla district where the UNP had the majority votes and not the SLMC, since SLMC candidates were put forward in the UNP list, 3 SLMC/UNP members of parliament were elected. Rauf Hakeem himself won a seat in the Kandy district because he contested on the UNP ticket. If he had contested in the SLMC Tree symbol, he would have lost wholesale. Seen as playing his dirty game in politics always, after winning with the UNP and getting two nominated National List slots, it is rumoured that he hoodwinked the Muslim voters of the East and Nintavur and nominated his brother Dr. Hafeez and his “henchman” and close associated from Colombo married in Kandy, who calls himself a Malay for political convenience as the second National List MP allocated by the UNP to the SLMC. The most eligible nominee to one of the National List MP post was M.T. Hassanali the Secretary General of the SLMC who is a symbol of the late M.H.M. Ashraff as seen by the SLMC hardcore and active “poraaligal”. But Rauf Hakeem (crowned the wise schemer) and deceptive politician he is, holding power at the party hierarchy using the most undemocratic methods supported by a few handpicked henchmen, controlling the party, appointed Dr. A.R.A. Hafeez and Lawyer M.H.M. Salman to the 2 National List slots offered by the UNP. The drama behind Dr. Hafeez’s sudden resignation maybe that the SLMC is cracking big and he wants to prevent further cracks by offering to nominate M.T. Hassanali the Secretary General who is beginning to wield more popularity and support at the grassroot level of the party membership. M.T. Hassanali is a strong advocate of The SLMC’s fundamental demand after it’s re-launch of the creation of a territorially non-contiguous Muslim majority council consisting of the Muslim divisions in the North and East modelled on Pondicherry in India. This was Ashraff’s rationale to preserve for the Eastern Province Muslims their 33 per cent representation as far as possible in a proposed merger situation where it would have dwindled to 17 per cent.
On the alternate, Rauf Hakeen may be using this as a political strategy to prepare to gather the votes at the villages for the SLMC to win at least a few local government bodies and or to secure the Kalmunai Municipal Council in the forthcoming elections expected in June. Compared to Rauf Hakeem, Minister Rishad Bathiudeen had fared well by offering a National List slot to Puttlum (M.H.M. Navai) who lost the elections, though nominated by the ACMC in the UNP list. It is also noteworthy that ACMC lost in the Muslim majority Digamadulla electoral district where it contested in its own symbol peacock.
Minister Rauf Hakeem, played games with President Mahinda Rajapaksa and jumped the boat only after the postal voting took place in August 2015, to support President Maithripala Sirisena (PM. Candidate Ranil Wickremesinghe), by stabbing Mahinda’s back after enjoying the best from Mahinda, Basil and Gotabaya. Rauf Hakeem is prone to do the same to President Maithripala Sirisena too.
