UNP National List MP Hafeez resigns from Parliament

United National Party (UNP)?National List Member of Parliament Dr A R A Hafeez has tendered his resignation?from his seat in Parliament.

A member of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC),?Dr Hafeez was appointed to Parliament under the National List of the UNP after the SLMC contested the August Parliament election with the UNP. (Colombo Gazette)

Government assures pipe borne water not contaminated

The Government today assured that pipe borne water was not contaminated as a result of the floods. Airman killed in rescue operations promoted posthumously

A Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) Airman who was killed during the rescue operations following the floods, was today?promoted posthumously. the SLAF said. The officer had fallen from a helicopter while engaging in a flood rescue operation in Neluwa area in Galle. YMS Yaparathna fell off the helicopter while carrying a flood victim on a cable.

State schools in Western, Sabaragamuwa to remain closed

All state schools in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces will remain closed till Friday, the Education Ministry said today. The Education Ministry said that the schools will be closed as the flood situation had not yet returned to normalcy.
