Key meeting between Wigneswaran, TNA NPC members postponed

WigneswaranA key meeting between Northern Province Chief Minister C V Wigneswaran and Tamil National Alliance (TNA) Northern Provincial Council (NPC) members, which was to take place today, was postponed indefinitely.

The Jaffan media reported that no explanation was given for the postponement of the meeting or when it will take place.

The TNA NPC members had sought details from Wigneswaran on the newly formed Tamil organisation chaired by Wigneswaran and the Chief Minister was expected to explain the policies of the organisation at this meeting.

The TNA NPC members had met Wigneswaran last week as well and pointed out to him the need to follow the TNA policies since he was elected to office through the TNA.

Wigneswaran has in the recent past gone against TNA policies and also joined hands with Jaffna based politicians who work against the TNA and some TNA members and civil society members to form the Tamil People’s Council (TPC).

Meanwhile a crucial meeting will also be held on Thursday in Kilinochchi between the TNA Parliamentary group and TNA provincial council members of the North and East. (Colombo Gazette)

  1. Wigneswaran has already outlined the objectives of the TPC far more better than what TNA has done about their partnership with the government. TNA has kept people in the dark about their MOU, if any, with this government as to the benefits to the Tamils. They have signally failed on their promises made before the elections namely the release of Tamil prisoners, reinstatement of lands in the North and the reduction of the size of the Army in the North. Not to mention about their clamour for international inquiry into the war. They have flip flopped on all these promises. It is important to have a watch dog organization like TPC to monitor the activities of TNA as everything with the TNA and this government is on mere oral promises and understanding, and not on concrete pacts or accords legally authenticated.
