Among the issues discussed was the impact on Northern fishermen as a result of Indian fishermen poaching in Sri Lankan waters.
Amaraweera assured the Northern fishermen that Sri Lanka will discuss a solution with India on the issue of Indians poaching in Sri Lankan waters.
The Minister also said that with the assistance of the Navy, the Government will look at new measures to prevent Indian fishermen from poaching in Sri Lankan waters.
During the meeting attended by Northern fishermen associations, Amaraweera also said that funds will be allocated to develop fishing harbors in the North.
Tamil National Alliance Parliamentarian M.A. Sumanthiran also participated in the discussion. (Colombo Gazette)
