Health Ministry plays down fears of A-H1N1 spreading

3D_Influenza_black_no_key_full_med2The Health Ministry says there is no threat of the A-H1N1 virus spreading in Sri Lanka.

Director General of Health Services at the Ministry of Health Dr. Palitha Mahipala said that measures have been taken to treat those who have the virus in order to prevent it from spreading.

He said that a few people have reported to hospitals with A-H1N1 but that is not a cause of alarm.

Dr. Palitha Mahipala said that the media had reported that three patients at the Vavuniya General hospital had contracted the virus and there was a fear it will spread.

However Dr. Palitha Mahipala said that on the instructions of the Health Minister, steps have been taken to ensure the virus does not spread in the country. (Colombo Gazette)
