President pardons man who attempted to assassinate him

CYMcM2pUkAAivLwPresident Maithripala Sirisena has pardoned the man charged with attempting to assassinate him in 2005.

“Ordered Presidential Pardon to a prisoner who was serving time for attempting to assassinate me in 2005,” the President tweeted.

President Sirisena met the convict Sivaraja Jenivan during the celebrations held at the BMICH today to mark the President’s first year in office.

The former LTTE operative attempted to assassinate Sirisena when he was the Minister of Mahaweli Development in 2005.

The convict was sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment by the Polonnaruwa High Court on July 3, 2015 and it was upheld by the Supreme Court. (Colombo Gazette)

    Perhaps plan is to make him minister of anti-terror while others are rotting in jail for decades under PTA with no charges against them.
