Dates for Zeid’s Sri Lanka visit not set

Zeid HusseinThe dates for the visit to Sri Lanka by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein have not yet been fixed.

Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein is scheduled to visit Sri Lanka this year and there is a possibility the visit will take place before March.

However the High Commissioner’s office said the dates for the visit have not yet been confirmed.

“No confirmation of dates yet,” the High Commissioner’s spokesperson Ravina Shamdasani told the Colombo Gazette.

The High Commissioner has been invited to visit Sri Lanka and see firsthand the developments on the human rights issue after the new government took office.

The government is set to brief the UN Human Rights Council in June on the progress made in the domestic process to address accountability issues over the war. (Colombo Gazette)

  1. Really, this guy is going to lecture us on human rights. Does he understand that Sri Lanka has been a democratic nation over the last 5 decades which elected the world’s first woman head of the state. Does he understand what it means to live in a democratically elected country with no kings and princes? How dare he lectures around the world pretending to know the rights of people or right to govern, liberty and freedom for all religions etc., Let him come so we can teach him a lesson about how democracy works and how people have the right to select their own leaders as oppose to Jordan. Why not go back to his own country and work on his own people’s rights and make his country a democratic nation. May be it is too uncomfortable for him as some poor Palestine sole might get ahead him and challenge his privilege life style. Prince Zeid Raad Zeid al-Hussein of Jordan as the new High Commissioner for Human Rights – An oxymoron of World Politics

  2. How are we to forget that the Tamil people fooled the world with a Mara2 government to overcome sanctions.
The `very smart` Tamils think too much but don’t feel the truth so they voted for BodhiSira who ignored the Tamils right through the election period and continue to do so.
If the vote had been ` no confidence ` written across the ballot then by this time some progress would have been made. Tamils took the heat off on the words of Sumanthiran and BTF/GTF.
JT’s think they are Jewish and blame everyone except themselves. How sad.!

  3. By your assessment ,not even lord Buddha could talk about the genocide you fellow country men have committed and continue to subjugate Tamils.
Attempts by you and your compatriots would be an exercise in futility at this juncture to cover up the pogroms and mass murders.
The holocaust of the sinking island would be exposed sooner than later

  4. He is a westerner with a Muslim name and that is the main reason he is in this position with label ‘Human-Rights’ with the blessings from West. There is no peace in any middle eastern country although he should address those first. His visit has no value as UN does not seem to be impartial to small countries such as Sri Lanka.
