New front not alternative political party says Wigi

WigneswaranNorthern Province Chief Minister C V Wigneswaran says the newly formed Tamil front is not an alternative Tamil political party.

It was earlier reported that the front which was formed last week will be an alternative to the Tamil National Alliance.

However Wigneswaran today denied those claims. Wigneswaran was last week appointed as the head of a new organisation comprising Tamil politicians and civil society members, which will work on Tamil rights.

The ‘Tamil People’s Conference’ met in Jaffna and discussed its future goals and also decided to form sub-committees which will handle various tasks.

The main committee in the ‘Tamil People’s Conference’ includes Tamil National Alliance members Dharmalingham Sidharthan and Suresh Premachandran and Tamil National People’s Front leader Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam.

The sub-committees appointed by the ‘Tamil People’s Conference’ have been given a time frame during which it will submit proposals to address issues faced by the Tamils. (Colombo Gazette)

  1. It is time Mr. Sampanthan reins in Wigi. or remove him from TNA. Govt. has given an assurance to TNA that all problems facing the Tamils will be solved slowly without upsetting the majority and one could see it is being done, though painfully slow, which upsets the Tamils and patients is this time. Wigi should not start something against the govt at this stage as Tamil people could see the light at the end of the tunnel but it requires time.. Tamils have a hope that
all reasonable demands will be incorporated once the new constitution is formulated and becomes the law of the country. Unity is strength, and CM.NPC should
realise this and try not to break the unity among the
Tamils, who voted en bloc for one party, TNA. It is
a good sign that the govt. deals with only TNA on
Tamil problems, which means that they recognize
TNA as the sole representatives of the Tamils in SL.

  2. There will be unknown motive behind the formation of Front with some defeated candidates at last Parliamentary elections which was supported by the NPC Chief Minister, Mr Sampanthar kept his talks with government secret because if he reveals the contents of the discussions, there will be huge protest from both sides of politics.
