Nisha Biswal arrives in Sri Lanka for talks

NishaUS Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Nisha Desai Biswal arrived in Sri Lanka today for talks with the Sri Lankan Government.

Biswal had already visited Sri Lanka at least twice this year after the Presidential and Parliamentary elections.

The opposition last week questioned the keen interest the United States is having on Sri Lanka with several top US officials already having visited the country this year.

Opposition Parliamentarian Dullas Alahaperuma said that while the Government says it is following a middle line in Sri Lanka’s foreign policy, the reality does not seem to be the case.

Alahaperuma said that over the past four months top US officials including Nisha Biswal, Samantha Power and Thomas Shannon visited Sri Lanka and had talks with the Government.

“I the last four months there were six US officials who visited Sri Lanka. In the past six months so many US officials have not gone to any other country. Are they coming with a good intention,” he asked.

Alahaperuma noted that even after the August 17 Parliament elections, before the cabinet took oaths, three Ministers took oaths so they could have talks with US Assistant Secretary of State Nisha Biswal who was visiting the country at the time. (Colombo Gazette)

  1. It looks like that Sri Lanka is the Centre for Learning for the US diplomats who are learning on the job. They learn how insediously they can interfere with internal affairs of a country to the extent thay can cause instability. US will only invest its time and resources only if it could reap benefits.

  2. Why is US sending high ranking officers to Sri lanka one after the other? Do they consider the Sri lanka is a true colony now. People like Champika Ranawaka who were dead against the westerners telling us what to do seems liking their legs now, It seems that Rev Rathana Thera of course has money to look after the temple he earned doing politics and happy and oblivious to other things.

  3. The current government has betrayed the Sri Lankan freedom and now they do not have any control on these American officials interfering domestic issues.

  4. Kerry, Biswal, Power, Biswal !!! Sri Lanka gets nothing tangible. They should be asked to help settle ALL our outstanding debts urgently.
