President assures he will fulfill his polls promises

0214-1140x740President Maithripala Sirisena says he would fulfill the verbal and written promises given to the people at the January Presidential Election.

He also said that politically he takes pity on those who are counting the days for the Government to collapse.

The President was speaking at a ceremony held today at the G. H. Buddhadasa playground to present the letters of permanent appointments to the workers of the Ceylon Electricity Board.

The workers of the Ceylon Electricity Board had last year engaged in a massive demonstration, demanding the permanency of their jobs. The President today is fulfilling his promise given to them on that day as the Common Candidate during the Presidential Election.

“There has been an issue about fulfilling the election promises after former Governments were elected. But my Government is committed to fulfill the promises given to the people through the Election Manifesto, for the future of this country”, the President said.

“No Government was able to solve all the problems on solving the issues of cost of living, employment as well as find solutions for social problems to ensure the personal satisfaction of all the people within the first few months of an election. But we will properly fulfill those responsibilities in the coming few years”, he further stated.

“Passing of the 19th amendment to the Constitution, even though the Government did not enjoy a two third majority in Parliament is a historic victory not only for our country, but also for the countries with democratic governments. Here a new Government was able to implement a program on 100 days and pass the 19th amendment to the constitution in the concept of a national Government,” the President said.

President Sirisena symbolically handed over few of the letters of appointments. The workers of the Ceylon Electricity Board expressed their gratitude to the President for solving the long lasting problem faced by them. (Colombo Gazette)

  1. This is the biggest mistake of Sri Lankan people. They can be easily cheated by politicians even if they know politicians have made secret deals with other countries who are waiting to destroy Sri Lanka. Now terrorists are being released because Sirisena promised! All development projects have been stopped because this man promised to America. Why we need a President of this kind to Sri Lanka.
