Ravi to announce accepted amendments

Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake will announce in Parliament on Saturday the amendments to the 2016 budget accepted by the Government.

Leader of the House Lakshman Kiriella told Parliament today that while several amendments and proposals had been made with regards to the 2016 budget, the Finance Minister will announce what has been accepted to be included in the final budget.

Kiriella was responding to a question posed by Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) Parliamentarian Vijitha Herath who had asked what the final budget really is.

He noted that while?Karunanayake had presented the original budget proposals, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe had announced some amendments yesterday and President Maithripala Sirisena is expected to announce more changes on his return from Rome.

Herath said that several trade unions suspended strike action which was to be launched today against the budget following assurances given by the Prime Minister.

However Herath said the trade unions must now keep in mind that only what?Karunanayake announces on Saturday will be the final budget and not what the Prime Minister has said with regards to the amendments. (Colombo Gazette)

Amnesty submits two reports on Lanka to UN

The London based Human Rights group Amnesty International (AI)has submitted two reports on Sri Lanka to the UN Human Rights Council. Dehiwala brothel raided

A brothel which was operating in Dehiwala in the guise of a Ayurveda spa was raided and six suspects were arrested, the police media unit said today. The police said that the brothel was located at Apanso Mawatha in Dehiwala and it was raided by officers of the Mount Lavinia police. Following the raid the police arrested a man and five women and the suspects were to be produced before the Mount Lavinia magistrate today.
