Prime Minister announces amendments to budget

RanilPrime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe today announced some amendments to the 2016 budget in an attempt to win the support of trade unions who have threatened to stage a strike tomorrow.

Making a special statement in Parliament, the Prime Minister said that Rs. 2000 will be added to the basic salary of State employees from January.

He also said that the Rs. 5000 emission test fee will be reduced to Rs. 1500 as an interim fee while the revenue licence fee will also be reduced from 25 percent to 15 percent in the budget.

The Prime Minister also said that the Rs. 2500 salary increment for private sector employees should be implemented from May 2016. (Colombo Gazette)


  1. Ranil has understood the Conspiracy behind the intended Trade Union actions, and the agitation of the opposition. When he was in the opposition, the opposition was dormant due to the continued Horse trade game over cross overs and bought over Media attacking him. Now there is a free media and the opposition’s concerns are heard loud and clear.
