Travel advice issued to Tamil Nadu

The government has issued a travel advice to Sri Lankans visiting Tamil Nadu. A statement by the External Affairs Ministry says the Government of Sri Lanka is constrained to request Sri Lankan nationals in the interest of their security to desist from undertaking visits to Tamil Nadu until further notice. The statement said that in the event there is a compelling reason to visit Tamil Nadu, such a visit should take place following prior timely intimation to the Sri Lanka Deputy High Commission

A snack worth Rs. 1.8 million

A Chinese national was arrested today after he swallowed a diamond at the Gem and Jewellery exhibition at the BMICH in Colombo. The police said that the Chinese man had attempted to steal the diamond worth Rs. 1.8 Million. However a man at the stall where the diamond was placed had noticed the attempt to to steal it and alerted the police. The Chinese man was with another Chinese visitor at the time. Pillay not coming next week

The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay will not be visiting Sri Lanka next week, the External Affairs Ministry said. A technical team from her office will be in Sri Lanka on September 14 but Pillay will not be coming with the team, a spokesperson at the External Affairs Ministry said.
