President tells Parliament Lanka caused world to split

MaithripalaPresident Maithripala Sirisena says Sri Lanka had in the past caused a split in the international community over the human rights issue.

Speaking in Parliament today, the President said that even the UN Human Rights Council was split on the Sri Lanka issue but that situation had now changed.

He says the new Government was able to build good relations with all countries and the UN and ensure the international community took one stand on Sri Lanka.

The President said that during his recent visit to Malta he met with the leaders of Canada and Britain, two countries which in the past had a negative impression on Sri Lanka.

Sirisena said that during his meeting with British Prime Minister David Cemeron, the UK assured it will support moves to help Sri Lanka regain GSP plus and remove the EU ban on Sri Lankan fisheries products. (Colombo Gazette)

  1. What is happening in Syria? Does the world has the same view, especially the US and Russia? President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe believe that they can save Tamils and the world. In reality, they will be struggling to save their government in the future, especially after the next election.

  2. In all resolutions of the UNHRC or elsewhere there are for and against arguments and votes. It means that on HR issues also countries are divided on matters as per their foreign and HR policies and views. That does not mean any country can be deemed as splitting the world. Every country or groups of countries have the freedom to oppose or be for any resolution. This democracy.

  3. Splitting world can be good to world’s development rather than believing cheats. Also top politicians who help split Sri Lanka are highly praised by the West.
