MOD says military on alert to assist police

The Ministry of Defence (MOD) says the military is on alert to assist the police if the need arises.

A statement by the MOD said that if there is a threat to National security, the three forces will assist the police to ensure law and order is maintained.

The MOD urged the public not to be misled by false claims being made with regards to the military.

FCID begins probe on 2016 Central Bank bond fraud

The Police Financial Crimes investigations Division (FCID) has launched an investigation?into alleged financial fraud said to have taken place when purchasing Central Bank bonds. The FCID informed courts today that the fraud is alleged to have taken place in 2016. The FCID alleged that a Rs 80 million financial fraud had taken place when purchasing Central Bank bonds using funds from the Employees? Provident Fund in 2016. (Colombo Gazette)

Apartment in Colpetty raided, 100kg of heroin seized

The Police Special Task Force (STF) have raided an apartment?in Colpetty and seized around 100kg of heroin. The Police said that five suspects were arrested in the raid. The Police said that two Americans and an Afghan national were among those arrested. According to the Police, two Sri Lankans were also arrested. (Colombo Gazette)
