Fuel shipments scheduled to arrive in July-August

Fuel shipments are scheduled to arrive in the country in July and August, the Ministry of Power and Energy said today. Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said that the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation is scheduled to receive a stock of diesel from the United Arab Emirates-based Coral Energy on 8-9 July and from the Singapore company Vitol from 11-14 July. Indians poaching in Sri Lankan waters arrested

The Navy has arrested 12 Indians poaching in Sri Lankan waters in the Northern seas. The Navy said that a special operation was launched to chase away Indians poaching in Sri Lankan waters this evening. Indian fishing trawlers had been detected poaching in the Northern seas this evening, the Navy media unit said. The Navy said that one trawler was subsequently detained inside Sri Lankan waters. Government considering a temporary lockdown

The Government is said to be considering a temporary lockdown to ensure essential services are able to obtain the fuel they require. However, no final decision has been reached on the matter. Essential services are unable to obtain fuel owing to the massive queues outside fuel stations across the country. The situation is expected to continue until fresh stocks of fuel arrives in the country after 10th July. As a result the Government is giving careful consideration to a temporary lockdown.
