Female passenger arrested with foreign currency

HandcuffsA female passenger was arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) today with foreign currency concealed in her baggage.

The Sri Lankan woman, aged 50, a resident of Kaduwela, was arrested by the customs officers at the Departure Lounge pf the Katunayake Airport with foreign currency valued at Rs. 28, 257,645.00 concealed in her baggage.

She had attempted to take the currency to Bangkok when she was arrested this morning. Customs officers found 35,700 Sterling Pounds, 44,170 USD, 100,000 Norway Kroner, 100,000 Denmark Kroner, 30,100 Euro, 4300 Swiss Francs, 60,000 Saudi Riyals, 24,000 Canadian dollars and 1,000,000 Korean won.

Investigations are being carried out by Deputy Director of Customs Anura Walawage and other customs officers.
