Government insists no move to censor media

The Government today insisted that there was no move to censor the local media or impose any form of restrictions on them.

Media Minister Gayantha Karunathilake, speaking at an event in Colombo today, said that politicians should act as politicians and the media should be allowed to do their duty.

The Minister said that in the past there had also been restrictions imposed on some local movies but the new Government has no intention of imposing similar restrictions. (Colombo Gazette)

Over 200kg of heroin and ICE seized off Dondra

Over 200kg of heroin and crystal methamphetamine (ICE), were seized at sea off Dondra by the Sri Lanka Navy. The Navy said that a coordinated operation was carried out at sea off the southern coast together with the Police Narcotics Bureau and State Intelligence Service. Brian Thomas questioned over Dinesh Schaffter’s death

Former Sri Lanka Cricket Media Manager and commentator Brian Thomas has been questioned over the death of businessman Dinesh Schaffter. The Police said that Schaffter died from strangulation on admission to hospital. According to the Police, several people have been questioned over the murder, including Brian Thomas.
