Another eight Tamil detainees released on bail

Another eight Tamil detainees arrested under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) were released on bail today.

The detainees were released on Rs. 1 million surety bails and ordered to appear before the Terrorist Investigations Division (TID) every other week.

Last week twenty-four Tamil detainees who granted bail left the Welikada?prison after bail was posted to them.

Earlier last?week 31 Tamil detainees arrested under the PTA were granted bail but no one appeared to post bail.

However on Friday?24 suspects were able to leave as they met the bail conditions. (Colombo Gazette)

Actor Jehan Appuhami granted bail

Actor Jehan Appuhami was granted bail after he surrendered to the Fort Magistrate?s Court today. He was wanted after being accused of forcibly entering the President?s House. The actor surrendered to the Fort Magistrate?s Court today and was released on bail. Meanwhile, the Colombo Fort Magistrate?s Court ordered activist Piyath Nikeshala to be remanded until 26th August. Price of kerosene increased by Rs. 253

The price of kerosene has been increased by Rs. 253, the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) said. As a result the price of a litre of kerosene has been increased from Rs. 87.00 to Rs. 340.00. The price increase will be with effect from midnight today. (Colombo Gazette)
