The Department of Meteorology said that the low pressure area near Sri Lanka has developed in to a depression and is located to the Northeast of the country.
Under the influence of the system, showery weather and cloudy skies over the country is expected to continue today. The Department of Meteorology said that there is a high possibility of strong winds being experienced over the country and surrounding sea areas.
Showers or thundershowers will be expected over most parts of the island, particularly in the Northern half of the country. These showers can occur at any time of the day. Very heavy falls (about 150mm) can be expected at some places.
The sea areas around the island will be very rough at times as the winds can strengthen up to 70-80 kmph at times.
Naval and fishing communities are requested not to set out to the sea, particularly in the sea areas off South, East, Northwest and North coast of Sri Lanka. (Colombo Gazette)
