Court frees 31 Tamil prisoners on bail

The Colombo Chief Magistrate today released on bail 31 Tamil political prisoners after the Attorney General gave the approval after a delay.

The suspects arrested under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) were brought to the court this morning but at that time the court had not received?the documents from the AG to free the inmates on bail.

However several hours later the 31 prisoners were brought to court again and produced before the Magistrate and released on bail. (Colombo Gazette)

A controlled explosion was carried out on a motorcycle near the Savoy cinema, the Police said. The Police said that the area was cleared and the explosion was carried out to check a part of the motorcycle which had no owner.
