The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) today recorded the final statements from the police and the students involved in the clash at ward place recently.
Acting IGP Pujith Jayasundara and a group of senior police officers appeared before the HRCSL to make a statement while a group of students of the Higher National Diploma in Accountancy (HNDA) also appeared before the HRCSL today.
Jayasundara and the senior police officers had this week also appeared before the National Police Commission (NPC) over the same incident.
The NPC later decided to appoint a three member committee to probe the clash between the police and the students.
The police have been accused of assaulting students who took part in a protest in Colombo last week over several demands.
Meanwhile Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has appointed a committee headed by Dr. BMS Batagoda to investigate the incident.
The Government said that if the police had misused their powers then action must be taken against the responsible officers. (Colombo Gazette)
