The Colombo Magistrate today approved a request from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to continue to question former Eastern Province Chief Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pillayan under Detention Orders (DO) till December 10.
The CID had on October 14 obtained approval from the Colombo Chief Magistrate to detain Pillayan, till today to be questioned further following his arrest.
He was produced in court today and the Magistrate approved the extension of the detention order.
Pillayan is being questioned in connection to the murder of Joseph Pararajasingham, a senior Tamil politician and former Batticaloa district Member of Parliament (MP) of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA).
Pararajasingham was shot dead in December 2005 at St. Mary’s co-cathedral church in the Batticaloa town while attending Christmas prayers. (Colombo Gazette)
