India has warned it may need to consider imposing a fine on Sri Lankan fishermen who poach in Indian waters if Sri Lanka decides to do the same with Indian fishermen.
Union Minister of State for Shipping and senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Pon. Radhakrishnan on Monday met Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president M. Karunanidhi and extended an invitation for a family wedding.
Speaking to reporters after his meeting with the DMK leader, Radhakrishnan said that if reports of the Sri Lankan government wanting to heavily fine Indian fishermen who transgressed into its territorial waters were true, the Indian government too may have to take similar measure, The Hindu newspaper reported.
The BJP had meanwhile already ruled out an alliance with the DMK in the ensuing Assembly elections in the State, he said. (Colombo Gazette)
