United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) Parliamentarian Udaya Gammanpila says he has received information of an attempt by the police to arrest him.
Gammanpila told reporters today that the police are looking to arrest him over an investigation involving an Australian man.
The Parliamentarian accused Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) General Secretary and Government Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka of being behind the alleged attempt to arrest him and place him behind bars.
Gammanpila claims the Minister is attempting to take revenge on him as he had left the JHU and contested the last Parliamentary elections separately and this had an impact on the election results of the JHU.
“He wants to harm my image,” the former JHU member said.
He says even if he is arrested he will eventually be released as there is no evidence to prove anything against him.
The MP says the Government is attempting to spread fear among the opposition members in order to silence them. (Colombo Gazette)
