Officials of the Presidential Commission investigating large scale fraud today boarded the Avant Garde ship at the Galle harbor to conduct investigations.
The Commission had sought approval to board the ship to investigate the weapons found on the ship said to belong to Rakna Lanka.
Approval was granted to the Commission by the police and accordingly officers of the Commission boarded the ship today.
The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) had recently sealed containers with weapons on the Avant Garde ship.
The CID is investigating the weapons on the ship at the Galle harbor after the navy had filed a police complaint.
Avant Garde Maritime Services (Pvt) Ltd recently slammed what it termed as a “downright betrayal” following allegations raised over its ship which docked at the Galle harbor recently.
The company said that the Ministry of Defence (MOD) had given the approval for the ship to dock in Galle but the Sri Lanka Navy boarded the ship and assumed command.
It also said that there is no discrepancy whatsoever in the consignment of weapons, ammunition and associated equipment maintained by Rakna Arakshaka Lanka Ltd (RALL) representatives on board. (Colombo Gazette)
