CID grills Mohamed Muzammil over plot to kill President

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) grilled National Freedom Front (NFF) spokesman Mohamed Muzammil today over an alleged plot to kill President Maithripala Sirisena and other VIPs. The CID had issued notice on?Muzammil based on a statement made by an Indian national who was arrested over the alleged plot. The Indian had met the NFF before his arrest.

Two people dead, 12 Navy personnel injured in Kinniya incident

Two people have died and 12 Navy personnel sustained injuries following an incident in Kinniya today. The tense situation arose when the Navy and the Police attempted to nab illegal sand miners in the area. The Navy said that two people had jumped into the river to escape arrest and one body was later found. Angry area residents then attacked the Navy accusing them of killing the two people. The Navy said that 12 Navy personnel were injured in the mob attack.

Sri Lanka fails to show progress in 2018 corruption index

Sri Lanka has failed to show progress on the 2018 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI), compiled by Transparency International (TI), the global coalition against corruption. Sri Lanka has scored 38 on the CPI 2018 retaining the same score from 2017; on a scale of 0 (highly corrupt) to 100 (very clean).
