Dhanuna Tilakaratne, the former son-in-law of Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka was acquitted today in the in Hicorp case.
He was acquitted by the Colombo High Court when the case was taken up for hearing today.
Tillakaratne, who as the president of Hicorp International and the British Borneo Defence, was accused of earning profits from arms procurement deals of the army that were awarded to him by the former army commander during the war with the LTTE.
Both Tillakaratne and Fonseka were indicted along with the Director of Hicorp Wellington De Hoedt on charges of corruption in military procurements through Hicorp International.
Tillakaratne, however managed to evade arrest and remained at large until he surrendered to the court in 2014. He was released on bail following his surrender. (Colombo Gazette)
