Detention order obtained to grill Pillayan further

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has obtained approval from the Colombo Chief Magistrate to detain former Eastern Province Chief Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pillayan, till November 4 to be questioned further.

Pillayan, who was arrested on Sunday, is being questioned?in connection to the murder of Joseph Pararajasingham, a senior Tamil politician and former Batticaloa district Member of Parliament (MP) of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA).

Pararajasingham was shot dead in December 2005 at St. Mary?s co-cathedral church in the Batticaloa town while attending Christmas prayers.

The MP?s wife, Mrs. Sugunam Pararajasingham sustained serious injuries in the gunfire while?several others were also injured.

Sources said that Pillayan is expected to be questioned in relation to several other cases as well. (Colombo Gazette)
