Court extends order preventing arrest of Gotabaya Rajapaksa

The Court of Appeal today extended a stay order preventing the arrest of former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa. The former Defence Secretary had filed a writ petition seeking an interim order preventing the police from arresting him under the Public Properties Act in connection with the investigation into the misappropriation of public funds for the construction of the D.A. Main suspect in murder of Karandeniya official arrested

The Police said that they had arrested the main suspect involved in the murder of the Deputy Chairman of the Karandeniya Pradeshiya Sabha. Investigations revealed the suspect was linked to an?underworld leader identified as ?Kosgoda Sujee?. The Deputy Chairman of the Karandeniya Pradeshiya Sabha, Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) member Donald Sampath, was shot dead on June 8. He was killed by unidentified gunmen who were on a motorcycle in Korakena, Uragaha. (Colombo Gazette)
