The Supreme Court today dismissed the petition filed by Community Party leader DEW Gunasekera on the National List candidates nominated to Parliament by the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA).
Leftist parties had last month raised strong objections to the members appointment to Parliament by the UPFA through the National List.
The Leftist Parties had said that the UPFA members appointed to Parliament through the National List, do not have the backing of the public or Parliament.
The Leftist Parties also noted that appointing defeated candidates to Parliament is a violation of Parliament democracy. (Colombo Gazette)
