Over 300,000 people have been affected by the bad weather, the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) said today.
The DMC said that of those affected, several have been displaced and sent to temporary camps and shelters.
The Southern, Eastern, Northern and North Central provinces are among the worst affected areas from floods and landslides.
As of this morning, 94,706 families consisting of 331,275 people have been affected by the bad weather, the DMC said.
Meanwhile the Department of Meteorology said that atmospheric conditions are favorable for showers or thundershowers over most parts of the island during the afternoon and night.
It said that thundershowers will develop at most parts of the island after 2.00 p.m. Showersor thundershowers will occur at several places in the Western,Southern, Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces. Heavy rain falls (more than 100mm) are also expected at some places.
The Department of Meteorology said that there may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers. The public have been urged to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity. (Colombo Gazette)
