Probe ordered into sudden islandwide powercut

RanjithPower and Energy Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya has ordered an investigation into the sudden power cut experienced islandwide last night.

The power cut lasted for several hours and the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) said that the electricity supply was eventually restored.

Meanwhile the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) said the islandwide blackout was believed to have been as a result of low electricity demand and an increase in the power supply,

The CEB said that the high amount of electricity generated on Sunday could not cope with the little demand for electricity that night and this could have resulted in the breakdown. (Colombo Gazette)

  1. As an Engineer I was surprised that there was an island wide power cut last night.Being experience in the system a bit one could assume,if the set up is what I think of is a command sent by a data link to all the stations simultaneously to shut down the system island wide by a person in the control sent for the country grid, perhaps situated in Colombo or the computer system’s firewall is breached and it could eve be a cyber attack.May be I am wrong, just an educated guess.Too many power cuts recently that would have a damaging effect on some systems and sensitive equipment in ones house. What do you expect in our ammage darmadeepaya with a great ‘history’ where the two bit politicians ru around in stupid ambudes, truly shameful.
