Government assures Northern public equal rights

DSC_8305The Government today said that the people in the North will be given equal rights similar to what people in the South enjoy.

Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said that the policy of the Government is to protect the rights of all communities.

He said that Prime Minister and United National Party (UNP) leader Ranil Wickremesinghe has always maintained that policy but that worked against him in 2005.

The Education Minister said that in 2005 certain extremist groups had prevented the people in the North from backing Wickremesinghe at the election since he stood for unity between all communities.

Akila Viraj Kariyawasam was speaking at the 125th anniversary of the Jaffna Hindu College where he was the chief guest.

He said that he was the first Education Minister to attend the anniversary event of the school which has a rich history.

The Minister said that the school authorities had made several requests to him in order to improve the facilities of the school and he has given consideration to those requests.

He said that he has decided to allocate funds to construct a new three storied building and also improve some of the basic facilities in the school.

The Minister said that his Ministry will also take steps to assist the education sector in the North to ensure it is on par with the South. (Colombo Gazette)

  1. All these Assurance are just to please the crown at theat moment. When they go back to south they twist their wording to fool the Sinhalese. This has been going on for so long that the people are not going to believe on these assurances.

  2. Today, Akila Viraj has gone there to address the school in Jaffna because LTTE Terrorism was annihilated by Mahinda Rajapakse led government where all the previous government including Ranil Wickramasighe failed miserably.

Akila must talk from mouth and not from some other part in this respect. Ranil Wicramasinghe knows how to divide the country therefore he has gone and entered in to Ceasefire with dreaded terrorist. It is the good fortune of Mother Lanka and its Masses that Ranil was defeated in 2005 Presidential Elections..

  3. It’s very good to assure the northern public of equal rights.
What about the people of the rest of the country. Is the ex president above the law of the country, why did the presidential commission for fraud investigation have go to his official residence get a statement

  4. Absolutely the Tamil People should be given equal rights.Be it Christianity,Buddhism, Hinduism, they are SRI LANKANS..Wake up RACISTS.If JVP who murdered & destroyed our Nation was PARDONED,Why not TAMILS? The current government led by TWO VERY SPECIAL LEADERS ,are sure to deliver the goods.RACISTS SHUT UP.

  5. Equal rights for Tamils still remain to be seen. Few weeks ago Foreign Mininstry advertised for a research officer position. I have applied for the job, but no reply. Of course I won’t hear from them. Foreign Minister Mangala would have been terrified due to my knowledge, because he has only a designing qualification. I have a business degree and business diplomas from Australia. I have been working as an Accountant. I have traveled to more than 25 countries and lived in four continents. I have read more than three hundred books to understand world history, cultures, languages, capitalism, democracy, communism, global economics and international politics. I have done two researches equal to two PhDs.

My First Research Paper 2007–2009: “What are the stumbling blocks for Asians to prosper as the world’s majority in Asia as well as in the world” I have chosen the thesis, and the research materials; because the billions of Asians are divided, and they don’t have any protocol to unite Asia to move forward. Chinese have their own idea, so do Indians, Japanese and Koreans. Plus the West won’t offer this kind of thesis to help the Asians to dominate the world.

My Second Research Paper 2009–2011: “What made the Western countries so powerful, and what it takes them to keep their power” I have chosen the thesis, and the research materials; because the Western countries won’t offer this kind of thesis to tell the world how they have been ruling the world, and how they are indented to carry-on forever to rule the world.

Why not even one diaspora in the foreign ministry? Does this look like good governance or genuine reconciliation? Smart Asians are going nowhere in Asia, especially in South Asia; is it a curse or shame for the billions of Asians in the 21st century?

    • I agree 100%. The high ups in the Government does not want the educated youths to take a lead because they are afraid they will be pushed back. This is a damn curse to Asians and especially South Asia India, Sri Lanka are good example.
