The Government today noted the need to maintain good ties with the UN system despite concerns raised by some members of the opposition and hardline groups.
Cabinet spokesman Rajitha Senaratne said that by ignoring proposals made by the UN the former Government saw itself being isolated.
He said that other countries which had also taken a confrontational approach with the UN instead of being open to constructive dialogue, had nothing to gain in the end.
The Minister said that some people in Sri Lanka have the wrong impression that the UN is attempting to take control of Sri Lanka but that impression has no basis. (Colombo Gazette)
