SLFP committee to study OHCHR report

The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) has appointed a committee to study the report on Sri Lanka by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).

SLFP General Secretary Duminda Dissanayake said that the committee will submit a report on the findings and recommendations mentioned in?the UN report.

He said that the committee will be headed by former President Chandrika Kumaratunga and will include several top SLFP members.

The committee will see if the report and the recommendations pose a threat to Sri Lanka’s national security and what steps they would propose the Government should take in order to address the concerns in the report.

The Government has already said it will begin a consultations process with the participation of all political parties in Parliament as part of the domestic process to address the human rights concerns. (Colombo Gazette)

Red sandalwood worth Rs. 100 Million seized

A container with 4,830 kgs of red sandalwood, valued at Rs 100 Million, was seized by staff of the Customs Preventive Division today at the Colombo Fort Preventive Office. Paraguay adopts resolution on Sri Lanka

The Paraguay Parliament has passed a resolution on Sri Lanka backing calls for an international process to ensure justice for the Tamils. The resolution was passed at a time when the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) is meeting in Geneva with Sri Lanka on the agenda.
