The main suspect involved in the Bloemendhal shooting incident has been identified, the police media unit said today.
Police spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekera said that underworld member Bloemendhal Chaminda was identified as having been involved in the incident.
A group of United National Party (UNP) supporters were shot at in Bloemendhal in July killing two people and injuring several others.
The UNP supporters were engaged in campaigning activities in support of former UNP MP and Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake when gunmen travelling in 2 vehicles had opened fire.
One woman was killed in the shooting incident and at least 12 others were injured and rushed to hospital. A second person later succumbed to his injuries.
The shooting incident claimed the first victim of the 2015 Parliamentary election. (Colombo Gazette)
