Former Auditor General Sarath Chandra Mayadunne announced that he has decided to resign from his National List seat in Parliament.
Mayadunne was nominated to the seat by the JVP after the just concluded Parliamentary election.
Making a special statement in Parliament, Mayadunne said that he had accepted the invitation to be nominated in the National List on a request put forward by the JVP.
He said he accepted the invitation in order to act independently and work with the JVP on fighting corruption.
However he said there are others in the JVP who are more suitable than him to represent the party in Parliament and so he decided to resign.
Mayadunne also said that he had no rift with the JVP and wished them well for the future. (Colombo Gazette)
