President Sirisena calls on the SLFP to unite

Maithripala SirisenaPresident Maithripala Sirisena today urged the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) to unite to rebuild the country and also prepare to face the next election.

Speaking at the 64th Anniversary of the SLFP held in Pollonaruwa, Sirisena said that he will not go back on the journey which he started following the January 8 Parliamentary election.

Several senior SLFP members including former President Mahinda Rajapaksa attended the anniversary event.

President Sirisena, as chairman of the SLFP, thanked Rajapaksa for attending the event and also noted the role he played to defeat terrorism.

The President said that while the country had seen progress under SLFP and United National Party (UNP) Governments, the public had lost faith in politicians owing to a poor political culture.


  1. Current Unity of SLFP has not address long struggle for Independence and freedom to commitments assures that unitary state has not been guarantee by that ongoing leadership.

    The realization of Unitary State has been challenge by TNA Federalism & CM of North P. Council of Chief Minister and US & Indian domination in Indian Ocean.

    National forces has played an important role in this process Unitary Sri Lanka while the ,current leadership of SLFP- MS, CBK and MR has intentionally betray that cause.

    There is temporary set back national cause betray by present SLFP leaders.

    It however has also to be firmly based against all forms of capitalist exploitation and their social formations by vast majority of Sri lanka-People.
