Parliament approval to expand the cabinet will be sought tomorrow, UNP Parliamentarian and Chief Government Whip Gayantha Karunathilake said.
He said that the Government expects to receive the approval from Parliament tomorrow and then the new cabinet will take oaths on Friday.
Parliament approval is being sought to appoint more than 30 members to the cabinet, which requires Parliament approval.
Under the 19th Amendment to the constitution only 30 members can be in the cabinet and if more are to be appointed then it requires Parliament approval.
Meanwhile, Leader of the House Lakshman Kiriella, who assumed duties today, said that the country needs a National Government to resolve National issues.
He said that the National Government will be able to address the issues faced by the Northern Tamils and also strengthen the economy. (Colombo Gazette)
