Suspect arrested with fake currency notes

A suspect was arrested with several fake currency notes in Otamavadi, the police media unit said today.

The police said that the suspect had initially attempted to purchase goods from a store using a fake Rs. 500 note.

Based on information provided to the police, the suspect was arrested and investigations were launched last night.

During the initial investigations, the police were able to recover 12 Rs. 5000 fake currency notes, 15?Rs. 1000 fake notes and 6?Rs. 500?fake notes.

The suspect is said to be a resident of Muttur. He is to be produced before a Magistrate today. (Colombo Gazette)

Riot Police deployed as staff take hospital official hostage

The riot Police were deployed to the Colombo National Hospital after the staff held the Deputy Director of the Colombo National Hospital, Dr. Rukshan Bellana, hostage.
