War time Omanthai check point removed

The check point which was established at Omanthai along the A9 road during the war has been removed with effect from today.

The Omanthai check point was known as the entry/exit point between LTTE controlled areas and Government controlled areas during the war.

Even after the war the?check point remained and some vehicles going between the north and the south were checked my the military.

However as of today the check point has been completely removed with no military presence at the location. (Colombo Gazette)

Over 15 million narcotic substance tablets seized at port

Over 15 million narcotic substance tablets were seized at the Colombo Port, the Police said. The Police said that the tablets were found inside a container. The container is said to have arrived in Sri Lanka from India.
